Biodiversity improvement in super-intensive olive field

The United Nations Conference on Biodiversity (COP15) ended in Montreal (Canada) on 19 December 2022 with a landmark agreement to guide global action for nature by 2030. According to the UN, the endangered plant and animal species are already 1 million and "the planet is suffering the greatest loss of life since the time of the dinosaurs.".

Among the main objectives agreed in the new Global Biodiversity Framework are: the protection of 30% of the Earth’s lands, oceans, coastal zones and inland waters by 2030, halting the human-induced extinction of endangered species, reducing the rate and risk of extinction of all species to one tenth, and the sustainable use and management of biological diversity, maintaining and improving nature’s contributions to people and ecosystems, etc.

We are committed not only to protecting biodiversity, but also to improving it. With Innoliva, a company producing extra virgin olive oil that has, in its farm Carapetal, with the largest exploitation of olive trees in the world, we develop a project that aims to reconcile olive farming with the diversification of the ecosystem through ecological restoration, thus enhancing natural diversity.  We develop and implement different measures to increase biodiversity on the farm, from the installation of drinking fountains to hotels for insects, shelters for bats, reptiles and much more.
